The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as a Jail Sergeant. The Jail Sergeant plays a critical role in supervising correctional staff, ensuring facility security, and maintaining the safety and well-being of both staff and inmates within the Jefferson County Jail.

The Jail Sergeant will serve as a frontline supervisor responsible for overseeing the daily activities of jail deputies, assigning tasks, and ensuring that all facility protocols are strictly followed.  The Jail Sergeants play an essential role in training and mentoring staff, promoting professional development, and maintaining high standards of discipline and professionalism.

You will be successful in this role by completing the following tasks and responsibilities:

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of jail deputies.
• Coordinate and oversee daily jail operations.
• Conduct regular inspections of the facility for safety, security, and cleanliness.
• Ensure proper enforcement of facility rules, regulations, and policies to ensure a secure environment.
• Respond to and manage emergencies, disturbances, and critical incidents
• Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience with a Law Enforcement Agency – Credit for years of service if an Associate (9 months), Bachelor Degree (18 months), or Master Degree (24 months) has been obtained.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
• No felony convictions or arrests with Domestic Abuse enhancers.
• US Citizenship.

Preferred Requirements:

• Jail Certification, Correctional Experience, and Prior Supervisory Experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage high-pressure situations effectively.

Wage & Benefits
The hourly wage range is $41.23 - $48.67 per hour depending on qualifications.
